Kalijar Fort is a prominent hill fort in the Bundelkhand region near Banda, overlooking the Vindhyan escarpments and the Ken River valley. Historically associated with the Chandela dynasty and later events during the reign of Sher Shah Suri, the fort complex features temples, gateways, water structures, and extensive defensive ramparts.
The fort is linked to medieval North Indian power centers and served as a strategic stronghold controlling regional trade and movement. Inscriptions and local traditions connect the site to Chandela rulers and subsequent conflicts in the 16th century.
