Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary is India’s first sanctuary dedicated to flamingos and coastal wetland conservation. Spread along the eastern waterfront of Mumbai and Thane, the sanctuary is internationally recognized for its rich mangrove ecosystem and migratory bird population. Every year, large numbers of greater and lesser flamingos arrive here during winter, making it an important site for birdwatching, research, and environmental education. Visitors mainly come to observe migratory birds, mangroves, and the unique intertidal landscape of the creek.
