About

Falaknuma Palace is a magnificent palace and luxury heritage hotel located in Hyderabad, Telangana. Built in 1894 by Nawab Vikar-ul-Umra, the Prime Minister of Hyderabad, the palace was later acquired by the sixth Nizam, Mahbub Ali Khan. The name 'Falaknuma' means 'Mirror of the Sky' in Urdu, reflecting the palace's elevated location and grandeur. The palace showcases a perfect blend of Italian and Tudor architectural styles and is renowned for its opulent interiors, extensive collection of art and artifacts, and its transformation into a luxury Taj hotel, making it one of the most prestigious heritage properties in India.

History & Background

Falaknuma Palace was designed by an Italian architect and took nine years to complete. The palace was the private residence of the Nizam and hosted many distinguished guests including King George V and Queen Mary. After the Nizam's death, the palace remained largely unused until the Taj Group undertook extensive restoration work and converted it into a luxury hotel, which opened in 2010. The restoration preserved the palace's original architecture and heritage while adding modern amenities.
