Covelong Beach has a rich historical significance. Originally established as a port by the Nawabs of the Carnatic, it became a strategic location during colonial times. In the 18th century, the French occupied it in 1746, before it was destroyed by the British in 1752. The area's colonial past is evident through the ruins of the Dutch fort and the ancient Catholic church, as well as the Taj Fisherman's Cove Resort built on the remnants of an 18th-century Belgian castle. Today, the beach has transformed into India's first surfing village, combining its historical heritage with modern adventure tourism.

Taxis, auto-rickshaws, and app-based cab services operate regularly, offering convenient access for visitors. Private vehicles can also access the beach easily via ECR, with parking facilities available. The beach is accessible year-round with no entry fee, and the best time to visit is between November and February, when the weather is most pleasant for beach activities and water sports.
