Nahargarh Fort is a historic fortification located on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the Pink City of Jaipur. Built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the fort was originally named Sudarshangarh but was later renamed Nahargarh, meaning "abode of tigers." The fort served as a retreat for the royal family and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Jaipur city, especially during sunset. Today, Nahargarh Fort is a popular tourist destination, known for its stunning architecture, scenic location, and the famous Padao Restaurant.
Nahargarh Fort was constructed in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II as part of the defense system for Jaipur, along with Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort. The fort was expanded in 1868 by Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, who added several palaces and structures. According to legend, the fort was named Nahargarh after Nahar Singh Bhomia, a spirit whose presence disrupted the construction, and a temple was built to appease him.
